Well, spring is here but I’m still waiting for some warmer weather. The annual WARN conference “Celebrate the Power of Nursing” was a success. The speakers gave engaging presentations on some really good topics like Benevolent Touch, Caregiver Stress, Substance Abuse in Brain Injury and What our Stroke Patients want to know about Sex. It was a great day to network with other rehab nurses. As usual, our silent auction was a big hit!
The WARN bylaw revisions were reviewed and approved by members at the conference. The revised bylaws will be submitted to ARN following the conference. We also had our annual Rising Star and Nurse Excellence Awards. This year these awards were presented to 2 nurses that work at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison. The Rising Star award was presented to Lindsay Crow BSN, RN and the Nurse Excellence Award was presented to Sarah Musselman BSN, RN, CRRN. Both nurses are well deserving of these awards.
The community award recipient was Acres of Hope and Aspirations which is run by Lisa Alberte RN. The organization provides care to people with challenging and catastrophic disabilities in a home like environment using animals, many with disabilities themselves, as part of the rehab program. If you would like more information about this organization, you can read an article in the December 2011 edition of Nursing Matters.
Results from the election for the open board positions were:
- President Elect: Anne Leclaire
- Program Co-Chair: Tracy Donaghy
- Secretary/Treasurer: Cheryl Michler
Congratulations to the new officers! We excited to have you on our team and look forward to working with you as we plan our activities for the upcoming year.
Our next half day conference is scheduled in August and will be at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison. Please be sure to look at the WARN website to get specific information as the conference gets nearer. We hope to see you there!
