February 3, 2011
The blizzard of the decade has come and gone. Everyone continues to dig out. Many local schools and businesses remain closed today. However, hospitals and clinics remained open throughout the three days of the storm. Medical, nursing and ancillary staff braved the elements to get to their facilities to care for patients. Some staff members stayed overnight at the hospital after their shift was over so that they would be there if the next shift was unable to get in. It makes me so very proud to be part of this wonderful group of people. Thank you to all of you who did your part to provide the best care during this time.
Last week, WARN presented a great program at Aurora St Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee. Plans are well under way for the all day educational program to be held April 11 at Lambeau Stadium in Green Bay. The speakers are lined up, the food is chosen, vendors have been contacted and donations for the silent auction are arriving. Make plans now to attend. Members watch your mail for the brochure that will be out in the next few days. Tell all your non WARN co-workers to check the website to register. Due to the economy, the WARN board has reduced the registration fees this year. We hope this will make it easier for you to attend this year. Remember—you also receive contact hours that are good for your CRRN renewal.
The WARN board also decided to increase the number of awards given out at the all day conference. There will be more this year as well as the amounts that will be given are increased. We continue to give awards for Excellence in Rehab Nursing and the Rising Star as well as the community donation. Look on the website for forms to nominate a peer or a community service related to rehab.
We have also posted some things to do in Green Bay on the website. The board will be arriving Sunday afternoon. We do not have any specific plans for Sunday evening. However, if you are staying in Green Bay on Sunday night, we will post a notice where to meet the board members for dinner and an evening of networking.
I am off to Guatemala on a medical mission Feb 14-26, 2011. If you have questions or
need to contact a board member during that time, the other board members are available
to help you.
See you in April.
